A new commandment

Jhn13:34-35 ...Love one another, as I have loved you... By this all men will know that you are my disciples...

Counting the cost of following Him~

Mat19:23-24
Luk12:31-34
Luk14:33

When we have much to give up, it is very hard to become a disciple. It does not only include material goods but also friends, acquaintances and even natural relatives (family). '...whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple...'

mmm... Shock, fear, surprise!

Whilst this is how the Scripture reads; study the wording more closely.
He clearly says 'sell' your worldly goods, and give the excess to charity. Keep a full purse though. All your other needs are promised adequate satisfaction thereafter. He doesn't want destitute disciples. Just have fewer material things than those around you- sufficient unto the needs.
Forsaking all others is going to be more tragic though.
Natural relatives must be left and avoided (unless you are ministering to them in His name), and here's the rider: IF THEY ARE UNWILLING TO FOLLOW HIM!

We will fail in following Him by trying to please those people with whom we have important natural relationships before trying to please God, especially if these people are unwilling to follow Him.
